Who doesn’t simply dig the dramatic crest and colors of Manchester United Football Club? The devil on the crest, named after the club’s nickname ‘Red Devils’ of the early 60s. Right from the gold and green half shirts to the red and white quartered shirts of the 1900s, to the turn-of-the century plain football shirt accompanied by blue shorts to the current red shirt with sallow black shorts, Man UTD gear has made waves all the way. Just like the club’s dashing history.

Manchester United is ranked, right up to this day, amongst one of the most successful clubs in the history of football. Right from the time it all started in 1878 by employees of the Lancashire and Yorkshire Railway Depot based at Newton Heath. The club did go through a rough patch and was very nearly closed down in 1902. That’s when the club’s name was changed to Manchester United and under Matts Busby’s dynamic leadership post World War II the club’s fortunes effected a dramatic change. The 1956 and 1957 Football League was won by Manchester United but then tragedy struck in 1958 when eight of the club’s esteemed players met their death during the much-publicized Munich air crash. It was thought, once again, that the club might close but, like the proverbial sphinx rising from the ashes, it came back to life and its players went on to win the 1965 football league as well.

Such being the club’s daring history – justifying the ‘Red Devils’ epithet – who wouldn’t want to step out in Manchester United shirts and kit?

For the more fashion savvy amongst us, it may be interesting to note that the new home shirt for Manchester United’s 2009 and 2010 season is a flashback of the 1909 FA Cup Final. The current season will feature players in blood red football shirts with a v-shaped sash in white down the front. May it be recalled that the United Manchester Home Shirt of 1909 was all white with a red v-shaped sash running all the way down the front. A little side bit: the 1909 United Manchester Home Shirt had been conceived by the famous winger of the club, Billy Meredith.
Fans will be thrilled to don this tribute shirt as they cheer the United Manchester players hoarse.
The United Manchester Away Shirt is quite an eye catcher as well. The sallow black color of the main body of the garment, and the high collar and the v-shaped blue stripe with the crest embossed truly hold your breath.

This debonair creation from the Nike stable is on the way to becoming a fashion rage. These football away shirts are available in short as well as long sleeves at £ 30. Children too, can buy long and short-sleeved United Manchester Away shirts at the same price. The women shirts, available in half sleeves only, come at a somewhat cheaper price- £ 20. Really cute are infants’ United Manchester gear replete with shirt, shorts and socks, all at £ 20.
